FOX Super Bowl Commercials: Social TV
Maximizing Views and Interaction
Everyone loves to talk about Super Bowl commercials.
So this year, for Super Bowl XLV, FOX created an on-demand way for viewers to recap their favorite commercials online. Commercial fans tend to be passionate about their favorite spots, and like to share opinions and laughs with like-minded fans and friends. FOX was looking for a way to leverage the Super Bowl commercial craze to maximize views and activity on their Super Bowl XLV site.
Real Time Community
FOX added Gigya’s Share and Activity Feed plugins to foster viewer sharing and conversation. With Gigya’s frictionless share plugin, visitors can easily share favorite Super Bowl commercials with friends on social networks, in a single click, without ever leaving the FOX website. Shared commercials are posted to social feeds and send new visitors back to the Super Bowl site. Additionally, activity from all shared or watched commercials is posted to the Gigya Activity Feed, highlighting popular commercials and bringing a real-time sense of community to the site.
High Volume Referral Traffic
Gigya’s social plugins were a success! Viewers shared commercials to a wide variety of social networks and bookmarking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, Digg, StumpleUpon and more. The case study revealed that shared commercials resulted in two new visitors for every shared video, with some social networks, like Twitter, sending an average of five new visitors back to the FOX Super Bowl homepage. With Gigya, FOX was able provide a positive social experience while increasing traffic and engagement on their site.
