I love products that just work. So when we were looking for ways to implement social login for our fledgling startup, we ended up using Gigya because it was simple to implement and performed as documented. What we DIDN’T expect was all the things Gigya allowed us to do several months AFTER our initial implementation. I’d like to share a few of these experiences with developers who may be thinking of using Gigya.Introducing Social Login
We had previously implemented Facebook Connect (which worked great) but ultimately found that users wanted a choice as to which provider they could login with. So we sleuthed around for a while, evaluated a couple other solutions and then came across Gigya. They offered a nice social login plugin so we decided to try their service.

Messenger Connect: A New Tool for Worldwide Social Distribution (Whitepaper)

Posted On: Filed Under: Gigya Updates, Social Marketing No Comments on Messenger Connect: A New Tool for Worldwide Social Distribution (Whitepaper)

Earlier this year, Microsoft unveiled a comprehensive activity stream architecture for Windows Live. This activity stream (sometimes called “Messenger social updates”) flows throughout popular PC, web and mobile phone services such as Messenger, Outlook, MSN and the new Windows Phone 7. This means activities sent to this newsfeed have the potential of surfacing where some of the most meaningful social interactions are taking place on a monthly basis:

  • There are more than 500 million active Windows Live IDs
  • Messenger has more than 298 million active accounts worldwide
  • Hotmail has more than 359 million active accounts worldwide
  • Windows Live Messenger climbed to #2 worldwide in total daily active users connecting to Facebook
  • the Messenger iPhone client has been installed millions of times
  • Windows Live activities flow to the “People Hub” of the new Windows Phone 7

As a site owner, allowing users to share activities from your site to the Windows Live activity stream represents a new opportunity in social distribution. It lets you connect your application to potentially hundreds of millions of Windows Live users and their devices. It’s hard to understate the value of tapping into a pipeline to such an enormous number of people.

To further the dialogue and understanding of the Social Graph, Wedbush Equity Analyst Lou Kerner hosted a call on November 30 with several experts on Social and Search, saying  “We believe Social Media and its associated technologies will change the world to a larger degree than is currently appreciated on Wall Street. The Social Graph is an increasingly important element of Social Media, yet it’s not well understood.”

Investor interest in Social business continues to intensify: Wedbush showed that funding of companies in the social space was up 100% in Q4 vs. Q3.  Justin Smith noted that 45 Billion new pieces of data about people and the things they care about are being created each month, and asked the question “Who is going to challenge Facebook’s social graph?”  David Kirkpatrick  says Google will challenge Facebook, the question is where and how given their graph information is located in a variety of places, they don’t have the social expertise in-house and that Bing/Facebook presents a significant challenge.
